10 Months Ago, I Asked a Question About Cybersecurity and Agentic AI… Today, Anthropic’s Project Glasswing Announcement Gives Us the Answer

Almost a year ago, I published an article in my newsletter VerbionPulse: 👉 “From Chatbots to Cyber-Worms: Why the Age of Agentic AI Demands Radical Rethinking of Digital Security”

At the time, the concern was emerging—but still theoretical:

  • AI systems executing actions autonomously
  • Prompt injection evolving into systemic risk
  • The possibility of self-propagating AI behaviors

It felt like we were approaching something significant.

Today, with Anthropic’s announcement of Project Glasswing, that “something” has clearly arrived.

What Glasswing Changes

At the center of this initiative is Claude Mythos Preview—a model that has already:

  • Identified thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities, including in major operating systems and browsers (Anthropic)
  • Demonstrated the ability to find and exploit zero-day vulnerabilities autonomously (Red Anthropic)
  • Forced its creators to restrict access, rather than release it publicly, due to potential risks (Venturebeat)

This is a turning point.

We are no longer discussing hypothetical risks.

We are witnessing AI systems operating at—or beyond—top-tier human cybersecurity expertise (WIRED)

What This Means (Connecting Back to My Article)

Looking back at my earlier perspective, three insights now stand out more clearly than ever:

1. The Threat Surface Has Become Autonomous

What we feared as “AI worms” is now part of a broader reality: AI doesn’t just analyze systems—it can act on them.

2. Cybersecurity Is No Longer Human-Limited

The constraint is no longer talent or scale. AI can now scan, detect, and exploit vulnerabilities across massive codebases—at speed.

As one industry leader noted, cybersecurity is no longer bound by human capacity (SecurityBrief Australia)

3. The Race Is No Longer Linear

Anthropic itself highlights a critical point: We are talking about months, not years, before these capabilities proliferate widely (Anthropic)

A Strategic Reflection

Project Glasswing is not just a technical initiative.

It is a signal. A signal that:

  • AI capabilities are advancing faster than governance frameworks
  • The line between defense and offense is thinner than ever
  • And most importantly, that the industry is trying to get ahead of something it cannot fully control

Where This Leaves Us

If my article 10 months ago was a warning, Glasswing is a validation.

We are entering an era where:

  • AI will secure systems
  • AI will attack systems
  • And the outcome will depend on who deploys it first—and more responsibly

Artificial intelligence is indeed the beginning of a new phase of human civilization.

But Project Glasswing reminds us of something deeper:

In this phase, security is no longer a function— it is a race.
